The Natvia Sugar-free Bake Off is now on and there are some pretty sweet prizes for 5 grand final winners including Morphy Richards products and a group baking class with
award-winning Patissier Patrick Harrison from a 5-star Sydney Hotel. All
you need to do is create your own sugar free recipe using Natvia. The
baking competition is open on www.taste.com.au/natvia until the 7th of August 2012.
I actually hadn't heard about Natvia so I was interested to find out that Natvia is a 100% Natural Sweetener made from
the Stevia plant and blended with naturally
occurring nectars from melons and grapes.
I received a few canisters of Natvia, 100% Natural Sweetener as well as Vitarium Sugar-free Drinking mixes in Chocolate and Strawberry (sweetened by Natvia).
I opened the Natvia canister and it looked to me pretty much like caster sugar, although it smells sweeter....if that is possible when talking about sugar.
Anyway my friend was over and she knew all about Natvia and had just picked up some of the chocolate mix with her groceries, so we decided to experiment and I whipped up a mocha using my coffee machine and adding 3 teaspoons of the Natvia premix chocolate.
It was pretty delicious and best of all there was no weird aftertaste.
Now y'all have probably guessed from my recipes that I don't count kilojoules but for those of you that are interested there was quite a significant difference between Natvia and the regular drinking chocolate I had in my pantry.
A 15g serve of Vitarium Sugar-free Drinking Chocolate (sweetened by Natvia) was under 36 kj and the regular drinking chocolate was 252 kj. I'm no nutritionist and I don't know about that kinda stuff but it sounds like a lot to me.
